They have proven themselves for years in more than 10,000 ports with their corrosion-resistant, maintenance-free materials and long service life. Their fields of application include ship-to-shore cranes, bulk cargo handling cranes, RTGs, RMGs, Goliath cranes, spreaders and reach stackers. Energy chain systems instead of festooning
Provide guidance for cables and energy chains whilst keeping them protected and safe in wind and fluctuating temperatures. That way, downtime can be reduced.
Energy chain systems instead of motor cable drums
No slip ring on long travels. Guide all media safely in one system. Travels of up to 1,000 metres.
For gliding applications to prolong the service life of energy chain systems. This solution is recommended for travels between 1m/s and 3m/s.
For the main power and data supplies, a motorised cable drum was initially used, involving slip rings that required a great deal of maintenance. For this reason, the crane operator decided to resolve the supply issue with a roller energy chain and dependable chainflex® cables with a 36-month warranty from igus®. This arrangement is not only simpler, safer and more secure than the motorised cable drum previously used, it also facilitates the supply of data via fibre optic cables. An igus® e-chain® and chainflex® cables have been in successful use since then with a travel of 441 metres and a max. acceleration of 01 m/sec².
This STS application is exposed to strong wind and consequently requires an energy supply that reliably withstands such conditions. For the customer, it was important that the cables were safely and securely guided in a controlled manner at all times, despite the double boom pivot point. igus® designed and tested a customised solution that was subsequently installed together with the crane manufacturer: now, a P4 energy supply and a range of chainflex® cables from igus® are in use; these guide cables at a speed of up to 240 m/min over a travel of 117 metres.
With this RTG crane, the e-chain® system from igus® in place has been working trouble free for more than 10 years, without even one component of the energy chain having to be replaced. With a travel of 19.2 and a speed of 70 m/min and an acceleration of 0.7 m/sec², the system keeps its promises: reliable cable guidance. The energy chain guides a range of chainflex® cables as these were developed specifically for moving applications.
A leading straddle carrier manufacturer complained of increased wear with the previous cable and hose guide system for the spreader lift and therefore a shorter cable and hose service life. Since the cable guidance in the straddle carriers has been taken on by igus® energy chains, the service life of the cables and hoses has significantly increased. The e-chains® guide wear-resistant CF9 and CFBUS chainflex® cables and hydraulic hoses.
The e-chain® and the chainflex® cables from igus® it guides used with this RMG crane have a travel of 34.2 metres, a speed of 120 m/min and an acceleration of 0.7 m/sec². The special requirements of this application included a very compact design. The energy supply system must not be any higher than the crane girder. The specifications included dispensing with any attached steel structures.
igus® energy chains in conjunction with chainflex® cables running in reverse are deployed for these automated stacker cranes. For this purpose, the e-chains® are guided in a trough system. In doing so, the e-chains® travel along a path of 29 meters at a speed of 72 m/min and with an acceleration of 0.35 m/sec². Various chainflex® cables with a 36-month warranty are used. These include CF340, CF38, CF37, motor cables as well as CF330 und CFLG.G fibre optic cables.
Some of the world's leading manufacturers of spreaders use igus® e-chains® and chainflex® cables for cable and hose guidance on their spreaders. This is also the case in this example, a series application in which an E4 series energy chain and chainflex® CF37, CF9 cables and hydraulic hoses from igus® are in use. In this spreader, energy supply and cables have a travel of 3.5 metres in length.
Energy supplies from igus® facilitate easy, corrosion-free and low maintenance cable guidance, both along the telescopic boom and in the cab adjustment. The energy supply's travel along the telescopic boom totals 11 metres while the travel along the cab adjustment amounts to 1.5 metres. Two e-chains® from igus® are deployed for the cab adjustment in order to protect all the cables and ensure they move safely and securely. 4140C and H4.56 energy supplies are used. These guide the chainflex® cables CF9, CF11 and hydraulic hoses from igus®.
